Frequently Asked Questions

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can help with a range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low mood, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns.

What happens in the first session?

The first session focuses on understanding your concerns, history, and what you would like to work on. It is used to clarify goals and identify the most appropriate focus for counselling.

What happens in a counselling session?

Sessions are structured and focused. You will be supported to better understand what is contributing to your difficulties and to develop practical ways of responding to them.

Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on before starting?

No. It is common to feel unsure at the beginning. Part of the process is clarifying what is most important and identifying where to start.

How is counselling different from trauma therapy or EMDR?

Counselling focuses more broadly on current concerns, coping, and day-to-day functioning. Trauma therapy and EMDR are more specific approaches used where difficult or overwhelming experiences continue to have an ongoing impact.

What if I feel stuck or things aren’t improving?

This can be discussed openly in sessions. Counselling is an active process, and the approach can be adjusted over time depending on what is or is not helping.
