How do I know which appointment type to book?

What is the difference between Private and Medicare appointments?
Select Medicare if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP or psychiatrist.
Select Private if you are booking without a Mental Health Care Plan.
Can I book with a Mental Health Care Plan?
Yes. A Medicare rebate may be available for eligible clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral from their GP or psychiatrist.
How much is the Medicare rebate?
The current Medicare rebate is $87.25 for eligible appointments.
Do I pay upfront?
Yes. Full payment is required at the time of your appointment. If you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, this is processed after payment.
Can I book couples counselling with Medicare?
A Medicare rebate may be available only where couples counselling has been approved by the referrer as part of the Mental Health Care Plan and referral. If you are booking a Medicare couples appointment, please ensure this has been approved.
What if I am unsure whether I should book Counselling or EMDR?
That is okay. Initial appointments can be used to assess your concerns and determine the most appropriate approach. EMDR is introduced only where it is suitable.
Are longer appointments available?
Yes. Extended appointments may be available upon enquiry where appropriate.
Do you offer telehealth?
Telehealth may be available upon enquiry.
Can I book online for NDIS or WorkCover counselling?
No. For NDIS and WorkCover / ReturnToWorkSA counselling, please submit an enquiry first so suitability, funding, and referral requirements can be confirmed.
What if I cannot find a suitable appointment time?
Get in touch and we can advise whether other appointment options are available.
What is your cancellation policy?
At least 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If sufficient notice is not provided, the full fee may be charged.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Sessions are confidential and your information is handled in accordance with professional and legal requirements.
What if I need urgent or crisis support?
Steadfast Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you need immediate support, contact Mental Health Triage, Lifeline, or call 000.
